We have this Fluke 773 device, a milliamp clamp meter that is accurate, versatile, and highly portable. Capable of measuring 4 to 20 mA signals five times faster than with traditional multimeters and without breaking the loop. That means you can troubleshoot a live device without having to shut it down and possibly missing something in the process.
The 773 is ideal for troubleshooting transmitters, valves, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) found in process plants. The 773 lets you connect to a mA loop in a traditional in-series workflow to measure, source, or simulate a control system. And it measures up to 99.0 mA without contact, including 10 to 50 mA signals in older control systems.
The 773 also sources and measures DC voltage, so it can be used to troubleshoot voltage input and output devices that accept a 1 to 5 V or 0 to 10 V signal. You can detach the clamp section of the meter and use it as a remote jaw, connected to the main body by an extension cable to make measurements easier in tight spaces.
Work smarter with the 778 mA clamp meter
An integrated measurement spotlight lets you illuminate hard-to-see wires in dark enclosures, while a dual backlit display can show the mA measurement and the 4 to 20 mA percent of span simultaneously. Use the Hold function to capture on-screen measurements for verification and recording purposes. In addition, auto power-off functions save battery life so you can work longer without changing batteries.
Advanced loop troubleshooting
With the unique mA scaling function, users can measure a mA signal without breaking the loop and send that signal to another device to record the measurements. The 773 also includes simultaneous in-circuit mA measurement with 24 V loop power to power and test the transmitter. You can also apply a mA input signal to a device and measure its 4-20 mA output on devices such as valves or mA isolators. It offers linear voltage or mA output ramp or 25 % step output.
