We sell new Metrel equipment such as insulation resistance testers up to 15 kV. Most units are in immediate inventory.
The MI 3211 TeraOhmHP 10 kV is a high-power, portable, battery- or mains-powered test instrument with excellent IP protection (IP65), designed to analyze insulation resistance using high DC test voltage ranges up to 10 kV. Thanks to its robustness (CAT IV measurement category) and high immunity to radiated electromagnetic fields, it is best suited to demanding industrial environments. The touchscreen or key operation through a menu-based LCD allows easy and transparent selection of different measurement methods and simple data entry. The newly designed test leads feature coded banana connectors for proper connection and locking, protecting them against unwanted or accidental removal.
An insulation resistance tester (also known as a megohmmeter) is a device used to measure the electrical insulation resistance of cables, electrical equipment and systems in general. Its main function is to verify that the insulation of conductors is not deteriorated, which could cause current leakage, short circuits or even fire hazards.
Main functions and features:
Measuring insulation resistance: This type of tester applies a high voltage (generally between 250V and 5000V, depending on the instrument) to the conductors of an electrical system and measures the insulation resistance between the conductors and ground or between the conductors themselves. High resistance indicates good insulation, while low resistance indicates that the insulation is damaged or deteriorated.
Preventing electrical faults: Poor insulation can allow current to flow to unwanted parts of the system (for example, to the enclosure of a piece of equipment or to ground), which can result in short circuits, equipment malfunction or electrocution hazards.
Detecting leakage currents: By measuring resistance, the tester can identify small leakage currents that may not be visible to the naked eye but could become serious problems if not addressed.
Testing equipment and cables: It is used in the inspection of cables, motors, transformers, switches, generators, solar panels and other electrical systems, to make sure there are no insulation faults.
Regulations and standards: The insulation resistance tester is also used to verify that electrical systems comply with safety regulations, which require a certain minimum resistance
