Magnetic Material Characterization: Permeability at Different Frequencies

Monterrey lab measuring complex magnetic permeability (μ', μ'') and losses in toroidal cores with the Keysight 16454A fixture, kHz to GHz.

Magnetic Material Characterization: Permeability at Different Frequencies

Magnetic Permeability Measurement Laboratory in Monterrey

Introduction:

In our laboratory we perform advanced characterization of magnetic materials using high-precision instrumentation, including specialized fixtures such as the Keysight 16454A Magnetic Material Test Fixture, enabling reliable measurements in RF and power applications. Measurements are made on samples with toroidal geometry, so the fixture has limitations on shape and dimensions. If the material does not meet these requirements, adaptations can be made through controlled machining or preparation of equivalent samples, always subject to prior technical evaluation. These processes are carried out taking into account the potential impact on magnetic properties, in order to ensure that the results obtained are representative of the real behavior of the material in its final application.

Services:

  • Complex permeability measurement (μ’, μ’’)
  • Magnetic loss calculation (tan δ)
  • Frequency sweeps (kHz → GHz)
  • Thermal stability evaluation
  • Characterization of toroidal cores

Applications:

  • RF inductor design
  • EMI filters
  • Switch-mode power supplies
